RACING NOTES

A BRILLIANT PERFORMER GOLDEN HAIR’S BREEDING Students of horse-breeding generally should be interested in the breeding and performances of the brood mare Golden Hair, purchased at 650 guineas at the Wellington sales a little over a week ago by Mr J. Clothier, of Matamata. Golden Hair is a comparatively young chestnut mare, foaled in 1930. She was a celebrated racehorse, being the winner of 12 races, including the V.R.C. Oaks and Wakeful Stakes, A.R.C. Great Northern Oaks and Royal Stakes, W.R.C. Thompson Handicap, Manawatu Sires’ produce Stakes and Taranaki Stakes.

She is a sister to Miss Cavendish, a winner, and half-sister to Lord Cavendish, winner of five races, and Lady Cav, a winner; closely related to Golden Primrose, .a highclass winner in Australia, Reremoana (A.R.C. Easter Handicap twice, Railway Handicap £ISOO, W.R.C. Thompson Handicap, etc.). The leading lines of her pedigree are: By Limond (1)— leading sire in New Zealand in 1931 and in Australia in 1932, and sire of winners of over £250,000, and sire of the dams of Tohunga (Durvan Gold Cup), Peerless (N.Z. and Great Northern Oaks), Russian Ballef (Wanganui Guineas), Siegmund, Elanage, Amigo, Centrepoise (C.J.C. Metropolitan Handicap), Foxmond, Entail, etc.

Out of Lady Cavendish (winner of nine races, including W.R.C. :rStakes, >yellingtori -stakes and Metropolitan Handicap, A.R.C. Great Northern Champagne Stakes and Railway Handicap), and sister to Lady Bentinck, dam of Golden Promise, a high-class winner of seven races in Australia, Belvoir, Topthorn, Etiquette and Titama, all winners; a half sister to Reremoana, winner of 28 races, including A.R.C. Railway Handicap, Easter Handicap (twice), W.R.C. Thompson Handicap, C.J.C. Criterion Handicap, Helen (dam of Tizzy, the Square and Queen Helen., all winners), and Valerie, dam of Valpre, winner of 16 races in New Zealand and Australia, and grand-dam of Dainty Verse and Toorak, both winners, by Absurd (1). Golden Hair has a foal at foot by Mr Standfast and is considered to be in foal again to Ringmaster.
