TUDOR THEATRE
A DOUBLE PROGRAMME TONIGHT AND MONDAY Ragatzy, a bone-setter, whose cures have interested and antagonised the medical world, sets out to cure the crippled daughter of a Harley Street surgeon. That is the story of “The Outsider,” which will be screened at the Tudor Theatre tonight and on” Monday. There are many dramatic situations in the picture which has George Sanders as a handsome, blatantly cocksure foreigner who is nearly always infuriatingly correct in his judgments and who falls in love with his patient. Mary Maguire’s characterisation of the artistic girl, apparently doomed to eternal lameness, is a flawless performance. Few artistes could retain that limp in scene after scene without a hint of artificiality, but she succeeds. Screening on the same programme is “The Gorilla” in which the Ritz Brothers have the leading roles as half-witted detectives. The action takes place in a house that 4s a maze of sliding panels. The time is something close to midnight —in the midst of a raging thunderstorm. The host, Lionel Atwill, has just received a note from “The Gorilla” threatening him with murder at midnight. A Into this scene wander Harrigan, Mulligan and Garrity—the Ritzes, of course—and from then on there is a succession of comedy and thrills.
