THURSDAY 4 February 1— An intense struggle reported to be in progress in Finland, northeast of Lake Ladoga. The Finns surrounded the Russians .in the Kitela sector, the Reds being without food for a week. * =* '# On the Western Front, tb.6 French patrols penetrated enemy territory at several points with success. * # « Three German divisions reported to have been massed at the junction of the Austrian, Italian and Yugoslavian frontiers. ifc # * Petrol restrictions were reintroduced in New Zealand. FRIDAY February 2 The President of Finland offered to negotiate an honourable peace with Russia, stating that Finland would not bend to imperialistic aims, but that Russia's barbarous attack was senseless. * * * The conference of the Balkan Entente (Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia arid Rumania) commenced at Belgrade.
