Offence When Enlisting—The addition or subtraction of a year or two by a recruit in his eagerness to serve may be winked at by the military authorities, or even given quiet approval where the applicant is obviously physically fit. However, it is a serious offence to give incorrect answers on attestation papers, as a recent applicant found to his cost, the sum of £1 1/- having to be paid to make amends for the concealment of previous illhealth which had impaired his physical condition.
