COUNTY LOAN
WAIPA RATEPAYERS' APPROVAL £60,600 FOR ROAD WORK Throughout the Waipa County on Thursday a poll was taken on a proposal to raise £69,600, which was the county's share in reconstructing, metalling and sealing 72 miles of road in the county. The proposal was carried by 961 votes to 119.
The last poll taken by the county was that for raising £30,000 for improvements on the Great South Road and the poll was carried by 1212 votes to 145. The total estimated cost of the present undertaking i5'£273,204.
Commenting on the result of the poll, Mr S..C. Macky, chairman of the Waipa, County Council, said the returns were very satisfactory, 89 per cent of those who voted having supported the scheme. There were 3010 eligible voters. The following were the returns from the various polling, places:
