Brass Bands Contest.—The Mayor of Palmerston North has been advised that the application to have the 1938 New Zealand band contest held at Palmerston North has been granted. Auckland Athletic Team.—Mr S. Carter, the Cambridge athlete, is included in a team chosen to represent the Auckland Province in the New Zealand track and field championships, to be held in Auckland on March 13.
Local Bodies Bill.— According to a speaker at the conference of Power Boards in Hamilton all the branches of the Farmers' Union intend discussing the Local Bodies Bill which suggests amalgamation with a view to advising the Government upon the value of the scheme. As the union is composed of men who will not be affected by the result of the Bill, he. contended, they will be in a position to discuss it fairly and impartially. Banker on Politics.—lt is not usual for a banker to speak in public on political matters, explained Mr A. E. Sandford, in addressing the meeting of the Junior .National Party in Hamilton. Mr Sandford said that'he did so because he was afraid of the future of the Dominion under the present Government and he considered it his duty to speak in support of arty new organisation which was aiming at a change of Government. In wishing the party success Mr Sandford said that when he retired near the end of the year he would take off his coat afresh to help the National Party.
