BRIDGE DRAMA

MAN SAVED FROM DEATH ATTEMPTED SUICIDE CHARGE At a sitting of the Cambridge Court yesterday morning, Charles Ernest Cameron ,a single xiian, aged 50 years,, working on a farm at Parawera, appeared before Messrs C. W s Boyce and K. L. Wilkinson, J.P.’s, on two charges, the first being an attempt to commit suicide by jumping, over the High Level Bridge on Tuesday evening, and the second being found drunk and disorderly on the High Level Bridge. Mr Lewis appeared for the accused.

Accused- was convicted on the second charge and he was ordered to take out a prohibition order, for 12 months. ;On the first charge Cameron was remanded to appear before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., at the monthly sitting of the Court next Wednesday. The resident who saw the incident, said that as he was crossing the bridge about 6.30 p.m. on his bicycle he noticed a man climb the outside parapet. He immediately went across to him and found him hanging over the side preparatory to dropping.

“However, I managed to get him back on to the bridge and stayed with him until the police arrived,” he said.
