SOCIAL HOUR
TROTTING CLUB’S FUNCTION
SEVERAL TOASTS HONOURED
At the conclusion of business at the annual meeting of the Cambridge Trotting Club on Monday evening, members gathered round the large log fire in the old Parish Hall and spent a pleasant social hour, when toasts were honoured and musical items appreciated.
In proposing the toast of the Cambridge Trotting Club, Mr D. J. Lundon gave most of the credit for the successful position today to the intense interest of Mr Hannon, coupled with his knowledge of racing over a long period of years.
Mr Hannon said his ambition had been to place the Cambridge Club on the map. He did not think there was a more popular trotting club than Cambridge. Other toasts were “The Visitors,” Mr A. H. Nicoll, reply Rev. C. W. Chandler; “The Patron” (Mr James Taylor), Mr R. Hannon, reply, Mr C. Meredith; “Scotch Members,” Mr F. Lye, reply Mr G. M. Watt. The gathering expressed pleasure that Messrs W. McMillan and N. Banks were making good progress following their recent illnesses. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr J. V. Richards for his efforts to make the function a success. Enjoyable items were provided by Messrs E. H. Quill and G. Wheeler (Hamilton), C. Russo, T. H. Hampshire, F. R. Wooldridge and F. Lye.
