REMOVING STREET LAMPS.

(To the Editor)

Sir, While giving Mr Priestley and other members of the Council credit for reducing debit balance for year, I do not thank him in any way for proposing to do away with our lamp at corner of Taylor .Street and Stafford Street. I have been a ratepayer for this part of town for about, 25 years. We had no gas mains, of any sort, and no light until 1930 ,and this particular lamp was put there; owing to canvassing done by my wife while I was away in England. We have no footpaths, except those we form and keep clean .ourselves; no advantage in the new. water scheme; no fire plugs-within,a..quarter of a mile, and now it is proposed to take away our lamp.

Yours, etc., SPENCER MARSHALL. Stafford Street, .., 20th April, 1933.
