HOLDING GYMKHANA
SHOW COMMITTEE MEETS. . ARRANGEMENTS TOR MAY 27. A meeting of the committee of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association was-held recently, when arrangements were furthered for the gymkhana to be held on May 27. Beforo commencing the business, Mr Fisher, who presided, referred to the loss sustained in the death of Mrs J. A Fitzgerald and Mr E. Prendergast. A motion of sympathy was carried, those present-standing in silence. Mr G. Lambie reported on a meeting held to form a'Dog Trial Club in Cambridge. It had been decided to ask the association to include in the gymkhana programme an open driving and yarding event. It was decided to accept the club's offer, the prizes to be, first £3, second £2, third £l, with entry fee 5/-. Tho president stated that Mr James Taylor had offered to provide the necessary sheep for the trials. It being necessary to obtain a racing club license to hold a hurdle race it was decided to abandon this event and to seek permission for another trotting event. It was decided to include a handicap trot of two miles, first prize £2 with a' sweepstake of 5/added. Mr C. Goosman is to be asked to act as handicapper for the trotting events. Tho Cambridge branch of the Women's Division was offered tho catering rights at the gymkhana without fee. Fixing Show Dates. .- The president and Mr R. Wattam were appointed to attend a conference at Morrinsvillo on April 28 for the purpose of discussing show dates and also the matter of the closing of entries. The secretary stated that the agreement recently drawn up by the sub-com-niitteo based on an annual rental of £25 from the Trotting Club had been signed by the secretary and treasurer of the Trotting Club. It was decided to include a clause, freeing the association from any liability caused by fire and with the sanction of the Trotting Club a solicitor's agreement be drawn up. It was stated that Mr J. A. Fitzgerald had donated a silver cup to the association for the highest points in the homo industries section. Mr T. _F. Richards had also donated six choice dahlia bulbs as a points' prize in the floriculture section. -It was decided to accept the two offers and convey the thanks of the association to Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Richards. Nominations for the trotting events were fixed to close on May 20 and handicaps will'.'.be declared on May 23. It was decided to provide trophies to tho value of 30/- for the running events.
