ENGINEER'S REPORT.

In tho course of his monthly report, presented at the Waipa County meeting on Monday, Mr. J. W. Civil (County Engineer) stated* — Kaipaki Biding. Great South Eoad, Hamilton to Te Awamutu.—Repairs and grading by motor-grader have been carried out. | Berquist 's Road.—Some 20 chains of outlet drain has been cleaned and 24in concrete pipe culvert lowered and extended 16ft. >,■.' Lynd's Eoad. —Levels have been taken of drains and road near Boyd's and 12in -pipe culvert replaced "with 41ft of 18in concrete culvert at lower level, and Qiitlet drain excavated to suit same. Levels have been taken and arrangements made for forming 21 chains of road drain near Mr. Kite's residence, Mr. Kite contributing towards same. Cambridge-Ohaupb Eoad.—Seven 181 n pipes have been supplied and forwarded to Wilkraghby's for placing into position culvert where required. Repairs and general surface work has b'eon carried out on various roads in the riding by Surfacemen Higgins and Peck. - „. Pukekura Riding. Te Awamutu-Caaibridge Road.—-Re-pairs have been carried out and the whole of the road graded up. Eoto-o-rangi School Eoad. —Some 323 cubic yards of gravel sand has been carted by riding trucks and spread. •Settlement Eoads.—Some 132 cubic yards of gravel has been carted and spread on this road; also 150 cubic yards .of gravel sand has been carted on to various other roads' in the riding. Grading and surface work has been carried out by road teams on practically all, the other roads in the riding. Rangiaohia Riding. Te Awamutu-Cambridge Road. —Some 240 cub yards of Jin all-in metal has been supplied, carted by Council's trucks,, and repairs carried out ot road through Hairini. Sanding of some eight chains of footpath has been completed, and clay carted by trucks and edges of road banked up to take metal shoulders. Great South Rofd, Te Awamutu to Ohaupo.—Grading has been carried out by motor-graderlrom Mangapiko bridge towards Ohaupo. Contractors Mclnnes and Ross have completed Iheir contract of kerbing and channelling, and sanding of footpaths are completed. '«•'•' General. . Estimates for Government grants have been prepared for this coming season and forwarded to the Public Works Department. Plans and particulars have been prepared for Loans Board re Pukekura drainage, also information forwarded to Public Works Department re suggested roading schemes. General Business. Road Reserve. —Mr. A. E. Looinb inquired if the Council would be prepared to sell or lease to .him the triangular 1 reserve at the junction of the HamiltonI Hairini road, Te Awamutu, and, if so, [ - on what terms. He added that if a suitable tenure could be arranged he proposed to erect a bowser station on the site and would be prepared to confer, with the Council as to the nature of the buildings and the lay-out of the ground, so that the final arrangement reached might provide not merely for the utilisation of the referve, but also for its improvement.

The Engineer stated that the plot of ground was not a reserve, but a part of the road. In any case, the speaker thought it inadvisable to allow anything erected thereon which would obstruct the view of travellers.

The meeting decided to reply that the Council had no power to grant the request:

District Highways Council. The Board's representative advised that the period of office for all members of District Highways Councils terminated on the second Wednesday in May, .coincident with the determination of their office as members of County Councils, and asked the Council to nominate its representative on the District Highways Council for the ensuing three years. The County Chairmftn was reappointed to represent the Council. Traffic Signs. —The Commissioner of Transport drew the attention of the Council in respect to regulation 16 of the Motor Vehicle Regulations,'l92B, requiring the Council to erect traffic signs throughout the district, and dosired the Council's co-operation in the direction of having all signs erected without avoidable delay. Left to Engineer to deal with.
