Before half-time Pope equalised the’ scores by kicking a penalty goal for Tauwhare. In the second half Kelly kicked another penalty goal for Tauwliare, while Jeffries potted a goal from the field. With eight points down Hautapu kept hammering away at the defence, and then the unexpected happened. Petersen kicked through to score a rather soft try. Heartened by this success Hautapu kept up the pressure and in the last minute of the game a scrum was formed near Tauwhare’s line. Hollier received and whipping it out to Thompson enabled this player to score in the corner. At a very difficult angle everything depended on Gray’s kick. With a beautiful effort ho piloted the ball over the bar to score the winning points. Mr A. R. Thomas refereed.

The Hautapu team were entertained to refreshments by the Tauwhare residents, who were heartily thanked for their hospitality.
