WINTRY WEATHER
VERY HEAVY RAINFALL
THE COUNTRY SODDEN,
The present month is proving a trying one. We expect wintry weather in July, but, as a rule, in Cambridge wc have a great amount of sunshine, which compensates for the cold nights and heavy rains. This July, however, we have had a succession of dull days, with frcqucst rains, and very little sunshine. Of the 25 days fifteen have been wet, and there have been but very few really bright sunny days that are common at this time of the year.
Yesterday was a real winter’s day. Rain fell the whole day ,almost without cessation. At night a strong breeze sprang up and increased almost to a gale, this being accompanied by frequent blinding rain-showers. As a result of the frequent rains tlie country is water-logged, and a few bright days would be very welcome, especially to farmers, who are having a trying time with the muddy conditions. The rainfall for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m.- to-day totalled 1.38 in, making a total of 4.48 in for the month, to date—not an exceptionally heavy fall, but spread out so much that the country lias had little time to dry. In Auckland more rain has been experienced than in Cambridge. The rainfall in the city for the present month totalled over six and a half inches —more than two inches above our local rainfall.
