THE WINTER SHOW

MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY A RECORD SUCCESS The big Winter Show was opened on Tuesday afternoon, when, favoured by delightful weather, there was an exceedingly large attendance, among those present being a. great many visitors from all parts of the Dominion. The Formal Opening The Show was opened at 2 p.m. by the Prime Minister, who was accorded a hearty welcome on rising to speak in the big hall. Mr Massey expressed his pleasure at being present to open such a remarkably fine show, which was a record one in all branches, and which was a credit to the district and to the Dominion. Such a great Show had its national as well as its local importance. Mr Massey stated he had opened runny similar Shows in various parts of New Zealand and the Waikato Winter Show compared favourably with any of them The Prime Minister declared the Show formally open, after which “For He's a Jolly Good Fellow,” was sung by the great crowd, with great heartiness. The Exhibits The Show is a magnificent one in every department. The display of butter and cheese is recognised as the biggest and best in the whole world. Entries are very numerous, and competition exceedingly keen. The Cambridge Co-op. Dairy Co.’s splendid successes—reported in our last, given general satisfaction to Cambridge district residents. The Waikato is famed for its root crops, and, certainly the display of farm roots is a magnificent, one, the great arrays of mangolds, turnips and carrots being particularly fine, and a glowing tribute to the productivity of our Waikato soil. The horticultural department contains a wide, comprehensive exhibit, with good competition in most classes. The sections for needlework, home industries, photography, paintings, poultry and children's pots are all well filled, and contain a great many exhibits of exceptional merit. Many residents of Cambridge and district are among the prize winners in various sections. As usual, the trade exhibits are numerous, and set up in a most attractive manner, adding greatly to the success of the Show, while there are many side-shows in the neighbouring grounds. The Show continues open until next Monday night.
