TAOTAOROA RIDING.
(To the Editor.) Dear Sir, —X would like through the columns of your valued paper to refute a rumour that has got about to the clfcct that 1 was going to contest the seat for Councillor against Mr, John Bruce mud that Mr. Potts was standing out in my favour. I wish to state there is no truth in the report. It is true I hud received a petition from a number of ratepayers asking me to stand and while thanking them for the confidence they have in me I can only answer no to their request. Mi'. Potts never had any intention of pulling out, and even if I had any wish to oppose him, which I havn’t, being the morcr of a vote of confidence in him at his meeting would, of course, bar me from standing. Further I have not the time to devote to it, neither have I any wish to oppose Mr. Bruce, with whom I am on the best of terms. At the same time 1 shall support Mr. Potts, he having had several years experience on council matters and should carry more iveight, etc., than a new member. However, they are both fair men and will have a straight run for the position, and no matter who wins I feel sure there will be no , personal feeling over it. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., F. if. PEMBERTON. Ivarapiro, September 23rd, 1917.
