THE inauguration of a Literary and Debating Club in Cambridge is a movement deserving of the support of the general public. The discussions on subjects of general interest such as are usually debated at meetings of institutions elsewhere hot' only provide food for the mind, but are invaluable in training and giving young men confidence in public speaking. Many of the foremost public speakers of the day acknowledge . the value of debating classes as an aid to the art of elocution. Oratory is a gift, but at the same time practice in expressing oneself before a body of auditors is of the utmost assistance in enabling a speaker to propound his views with confidence, and in such as manner as to attract and retain the attention of his hearers. Who knows but thqt the local Club may not be the means of bringing to. light an embryo or W. J. Bryan?
