By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Monday. The Dunedin City Council has com pleted satisfactory arrangements for floating in London a £15,0(10 loan for electrical supply purposes. The terms are said to be better than the recent Auckland municipal loan. Gore, Monday. A six-roumed house, tenanted by E. J. Ladbrook, and owned by John Waddeil, was destroyed by fire at Mataura on Saturday night The family were absent at the time. Nothing was saved. The insurances are £l5O on the house and £l5O on the furniture, both in the Alliance Office. Napier, Tuesday. A six-roomed new house at Napier South, owned and occupied by Mr A. Petersen, was totally destroyed by fire last night. This district is not connected with the borough water system, arffl the brigade had to stand-idly by watching the flames devouring the building. The insurance on the house was £4OO in the Atlas Office, and on the furniture £IOO in.the Queensland office. Wellington, Tuesday. In the Supreme Court today judgment was given in the case involving the powers of the executive of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union to operate on the funds of the union in the Bank of New Zealand, In consequence of a protest by several members of the union against the payments without tne authority of a legally-constituted meeting of the union, the Bank declined to pay, i and an originating summons was brought The Chief Justice held that the executive could withdraw the funds for ordinary expenses, as the directors of companies ordinarily do.
Oamaru, Tuesday. Following the lead' given by Wanganui College, it ia understood that Waitaki High School will next month be placed under complete military control for a period of one or two weeks, and that the whole of that time will be devoted to training in military duties. Wellington, Tuesday. The record cargo of wool for this season was taken by the Clan Buchanan for England today. It consisted of 20,151) bales, the bulk of which was shipped at Wellington. Mr Holman, the New South Wales Premier, was accorded a civic reception today. This afternoon, he "is.being entertained at luncheon by the New Zealand Club.
Reginald Herbert, fot wilfully keeping a postal packet containing a Tatteraail's ticket, was ordered by the Chief Justtee to come up for sentence when called upon. Wanganui, Tuesday. 2 The Marahu butter factory was destroyed by lire yesterday morning. The outbreak was discovered at 1 a.m., but no water was available, and nothing could be done to save the building, which was a new one. The plant and everything was destroyed. The loss will be a heavy ona to the Kai-iwi district.
