A BIG STRIKE THREATENED BIG STRIKE THREATENED. TO SOLVE UNEMPLOYMENT. London, February 4. The transport organisations in Britain are planning a strike for next summer at the expiry of their existing agreements with the employers. The primary object is to solve the unemployment question before the next wave of industrial depression comes. The demands of the men will mean an all-round reduction of hours. The seamen claim an increased manning scale on all vessels, and the transport workers ashore will ask for an eight-hour day. THE BURWOOD TROUBLE. Received 10.5 a.m., sth. Sydney, February 5. The Burwood wheelers willl resume pending consideration of their claims under the Arbitration Act. The Employers’ Federation has consequently granted the miners' request for a conference. The miners have abandoned the aggregats meeting, i It is reported that some of the Btiiwcod miners are opposed to resuming I unless the whedero join the Em- ( ployees’ Federation. If such a condition is is forced upon the wheelers it will cause a hitch.
