THE POPE'S ILLNESS
Rome, July 14. THE evening bulletin states : The decrease of strength continues, the pulse is feeble ; tho condition is serious; but tbat is no immediate danger. Reuter's agency states that there is great uneasiness at tho Vatican duo to the almost entire failure of the renal functions. The patient is now becoming rapidly weaker, and his breathing is more difficult. His Holiness was conversing with the Cardinals during the evening with great difficulty, articulating ouly monosyllables. His memory is less clear. . There are rumours that ho is siraering from carcinomia of the liver. During a slight rally late in the evening he conversed with Cardinal Satealli, lucidly regarding the Biblical Committee. The Pope suffered u further relapse at midnight. His demise was feared before dawn. Later. The Pope is greatly wasted. The only sign of life is in the eyes, which are always bright. London, July 14. A Reuter's despatch says the Pope had severe attacks of vomiting during the night, and all hope of improvement is abandoned. The latest bulletin states that a change has occurred, and the patient is now in a critical aondition and the pulse is feeble.
