CRIMINAL LIBEL.

(by TKLEOBAPU—PKESS ASSOCIATION).

Auckland. List Night. The trial of William Richardson, charged with criminal libel in publishing state--ments defamatory of William John Baker, was continued to-day; but very slow progress was made. The evidence of William John Bell was concluded, and four other witnesses called by accused were examined. These witnesses included Inspector Cullen and Mr MosaDavis. As on the previous days accused sought to obtain evidence on matters which Mr Justice Connelly said as quite irrelevant, and many questions were disallowed. The Court was crowded with spectators.
