WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL

Tub Waipa County Council met at Ohaupo yesterday. There were present ; Crs J. Fisher (chairman!, J. Ryburn, E. Allen, S. Steele, J. H. McKiuder, F. J. Vickere, P. O'Connor, H. J. Bell, and the Supervisor (Mr W. H Mandeno). Kotobangi Roads—Mr A. Swarbrick, solicitor, wrote with reference to the road across section 225, Parish of Pukekura, stating that after thoroughly searching for the title in Auckland he came to the conclusion that no plan of the road had ever been registered or deposited in the Deeds or Land Transfer Office. It appeared, therefore, that the road in actual use had never been legally constiiuted a road.—Owing to the Bubdivision of the property the owners now propose to make this a legally-consti-tuted road ; but the Council refused to accept the line of road owing to the large drains being included, though they expressed their willinguess to take a line excluding the drains. Lor 31, Pukete.—Mr H. Boscawin wrote in reference to Lot 34, Pukete. He Baid this had niver been murie a gravel reserve, and he advised the Council to n.ako a formal application to the Land Board. Camhriugf Bridge.—Several letters were read from Mr Ashley Hunter, Engineer, regarding the Cambridge bridge. He stated that he had inspected the bridge, aud in his opinion the ropes which had corre in for a certain amount of criticism were carryiog a good deal of weight in excess of what he had at first ai ranged. There was not the slightest occasion to take any further action re--carding the matter, and the Council should feel no uneasiness regarding the safety of the bridge.—The letter was re~ ceived. Hiding Accounts.—The clerk read the following statement of Riding accounts : —Pukekura, Cr., £B2 15s 8d ; Newcastle, Dr., £52 ISs Id ; Rangiaohia, Dr., £l3 14s-1J ; Mangapiko, Dr., £B9 18s lOd ; Hamilton, Dr., 7s Sd ; I uhikaraniea, Dr., £4 2s 5d ; Mangapiko Outlying I istrict, Cr , £lOl 4s 9d ; Hamilton O Dying District, Cr., £l5O 14s 4d ; Pirongia Outlying District, £3l 16s 9d. Road Closing.—Plan9 of the load proposed to be closed through Mr Germanu's and other properties at Pateraugi were received from Mr Drury, surveyor. Mr Germann was present, and stated that Messrs Bukowsky and Karl, the other owners interested, had expressed their willingnesß to purchase the closed road adjoining their sections. The Couucil decided to take the necessary steps to ha>-e the road closed. PROSECIJIIONSJIJ-The Chairman inti mated that Constabls McGilp intended to issue summonses against four persons for breaches of the by-law by crossing the Cambridge bridge at other than a walking pace. —It was decided to engage the services of Mr Swarbrick, solicitor. Grants.—The Roads Department forwarded a circular asking for a list of public works for which grauts would be required.—The Supervisor was requested to compile a list of tho most necessary works. Fuir/E.—Miss E. J. Millar, Pirongia, wrote complaining that although she had cleared the furze on her frontage the owner ou the opposite side of the road had not done so and the furze was a refuge for hundreds of rabbits, which destroyed everything ahe planted.—The Council decided to notify the lessee of the property opposite Miss Millar's that the furze must be cleared immediately. Havelock's Bridge.—The Supervisor reported that no tender had bem received for re.erecting Havelock's Koad. He was empowered to arrange with some builder to undertake the work, and have the bridge erected on the proper road line, and not on the old site. Hospital, Contribution.—The council resolved to pay one-third of the amouut of the contribution to .the Waikato Hospital Board. By-Laws.—A special meeting will be held at noon ou June 9th, to consider tho question of by-laws. Lease. —The clerk was instructed to obtain a renewal of lease of the allotment upon which the Council Chamber is built, from Mr Edwards. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for payment:—Waikato Augus, £4 lis ; Ellis and Burnaud, £l4 6s 8d ; McKinnon and Sutherland, £3 19s 5d ; H. Booth, £39 Os Gd : W. H. Thompson, £3 13s 4d ; W. H. Mandeno, £35 Os 6d ; freight, £1 9s 9d : W. WillouHhby, £9 17a ; J. Wi'son and Co., £23 7s 6d ; Bygrave and Merryweather, £35 16s lOd ; R. J. Paul', 14s ; D. McCormick, £2 ; M. A. Going, 19s 9d : Thos. Walter, £1 6s ; Land and Survey Department, 15s : W.Burnett, £9 ISs ; H Fitzgerald, £2 7s6d. Pukekura Loan.—The auditor notified the Council that the special rate struck for the Pukekura loan would have to be collected to pay for interest and refund the amount already paid in the way of interest out of the general fund. —Tho Clerk was instructed to write quoting the clause in tho under which the loan was raised, and ask if an exception could not bo made in this case. fiIUVKL.—It was decided to inform Mr J. McCrae, of Frankton, that the Council could not 'accede to his request for gravel for tha footpath near his premises. Gaumonsway's LkAsk.—The question of Mr Garmonsway'a lease was discussed, and it was resolved to call for tenders for the lease by advertisement. Gate —On the motion of the Chairman the Council agreed to obtain a gate and padlock for the gravel pit at Walker's Gully.
