KAIHU CLIPPINGS

[By

Old Kaihu.]

Some time since I saw a lot of self glorification in a local print about a Martini Henri Rifle which some one connected with that reliable and trustworthy (?) paper was presenting to the Rifle Club to be fired for. I have been expecting another column or two of the same sort of thing on the presentation of this Rifle to the winner but have not seen it yet. I don’t like to appear inquisitive, but can you inform, me if this Rifle has been presented to the winner, and if so, when and where, and if not, why not, and when and where is it likely to be presented ? I hear the same party is presenting gold medals to be rowed for. —I would suggest that competitors see the medals in the hands of some reliable person before the start, or they may hang fire as the Rifle appears to have done, I don’t .know where your up-river contemporary gets his guui quotations from, but those given last Saturday were utterly unreliable. They appear to have been fixed for a purpose, but as few now take any notice of the Buster it is hardly worth while saying -iß ore on the subject,

The old politician has been on pins and needles since the news arrived that the Government had gained their point and thar twelve new members were to be aaik-a - Upper House. He is still anxious, even willing to serve an ungrateful country. (For a consideration of course.) Tie has Lis swag packed ready for the summons to Wellington, and the Osprey will have to make a special trip for him as none of the other boats will hold him.
