SPANISH REBELS.
THREAT OF AN IMMEDIATE OFFENSIVE. i ATTEMPT TO BREAK THROUGH STRAITS PATROLS. TROOPS AND AEROPLANES ASSEMBLED. (Received Thursday, 7.55 p.m.) LONDON, August 6. ‘/The Times” Casablanca correspondent says General Franco intends imminently to attempt to break through the Government patrols in the Straits of Gibraltar with.a large force of native troops and foreign legionaires. Ceuta is reported to be crammed with soldiers. Three steamers are ready for their embarkation and aeroplanes are ready to take off and bomb any Government warships opposing the passage. (A later cablegram states that the rebels succeeded in breaking the sea blockade and landed at Algeciras 3,000 regulars, foreign legionaires and Biffs, with machine-guns, 200 field guns, thousands of hand grenades and. motor lorries, in five ships camouflaged to evade detection and protected by a strong force of aeroplanes which heavily bombed the Government warships trying to intercept the convoy and compelled them to retreat. The rebels state that they will bring a further 3,000 men across during the week-end and will then have 10,000 men in Algeciras to advance on Malaga).
