CARTERTON SALE.

Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our usual weekly sale at the Carterton yards yesterday when we offered an exceptionally heavy yarding of dairy cattle and a good yarding of sheep and pigs to a large attendance. Sheep sold well up to late rates while pigs were slightly easier. Owing to the big yarding of dairy cattle buyers showed discretion, competing keenly only for the choicest lots. Medium sorts were hard to quit at late rates. Prices were:— Sheep: Ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, to 26/; fat b.f. 2-tooths, to 24/9; fat wethers, to 28/6; woolly wether hoggets, 19/6 to 19/9; medium b.f. hoggets, to 15/6; forward ewes, to 16/; store ewes, 6/6 to 8/6.

Cattle: 3-year Jersey heifers on drop, £8 to £9/5/; springing Ayrshire heifers, £5/15/ to £6/5/; springing Jersey heifers, £5/10/ to £7; cows close to profit, £5 to £6/10/; springing cows, £3 10/ to £6/5/; Jersey cows just calved, to £6/10/; yearling Jersey and Jersey cross heifers, to £3/12/6; forward empty heifers, to £4/12/6; empty cows, £2/5/ to £3; store cows, to 30/; vealers, to £3/12/6.

Pigs: Weaners (good), 15/ to 17/; weaners (medium), 12/ to 14/6; weaners (small), 6/ to 11/; slips, 17/ to 19/; store p'igs, 19/6 to 23/; light porkers, 25/ to 29/; porkers, 30/ to 38/; sow with litter, to £5; sows to farrow, £4 to £5/5/; P.B. Tamworth boars, to 4gns.
