CHURCH OF THE EPIPHANY.
SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AFTERNOON LARGELY ATTENDED DANCE. The Church of the Epiphany Ladies’ Guild held a most successful social afternoon on Thursday in aid of the annual sale of work. The Rev. J. E. Jones, presided, and the Rev. E. J. Rich gave a very interesting address on current events. Among those present were:-—Mesdames H. Evans, F. Whitton, H. M. Boddington, A. T. Jaekson, W. Henson, Glover, S. L. P. Free, W. G l . Lamb, J. Miller, A. W. Reynolds, Williams, Braggins Senr., C. Braggins, J. Stimpson, R. Hatch, J. G. Woodhouse, Williams, 8. Fletcher, A. Dalrymple, A. C. Major, W. Andrew, E. J. Rich, E. J. Coleman, W. Kemp, Baines, C. Bell, R. Bell, Judd, Thompson, McGuire, P. G. Ramsey, J. Bungate, Nelson, G. W. Hallam, M. Macrae, W. G. Perry, Miller Hope, Bennett, W. Hulme, Barnes, Moss, J. P. Stewart, Conly; Misses Eaton, N. Boddington, D. Kemp, N. Woodhouse, L. Boddington, Robieson, A. Ashwell, E. Pearce, J. Miller, B. Kemp, Brown. An excellent programme, arranged by Miss Boddington, was presented as follows:—Songs, Mesdames Conly, Moss, Stewart and Miss Woodhouse; recitations, Mrs. W. Hulme; pianoforte solos, Mrs. W. G. Perry and Miss Nesta Woodhouse; pianoforte duets, Mesdames Miller Hope and Bennett, Miller Hop-e and W. G. Perry. The accompanists were: Mesdames W. G. Perry, Barnes, and Miller Hope.
The artistic decorations were carried out by Mesdames H. Evans and F. Whitton, ably assisted by Mr. Joblin. A very enjoyable afternoon tea, arranged and served by the members of the Ladies’ Guild was much appreciated. Mrs. H. Evans (president) and members of the guild express their grateful thanks for the good response towards the annual sale.
A very successful long night dance was held in the evening in the Epiphany Hall, which was packed to capacity and all spent a very happy time. Miss Betty Holmwood gave a demonstration of her pupils’ work in fancy dancing, which was much appreciated. Prizes for the novelty dances were won as follow:—Monte Carlo, Miss A. Loft and Mr. B. Waters; statue waltz, Miss J. Jackson and Mr. T. Jones. Mr. E. Grantham sang comic songs and also whistling solos with spoon effects which were much appreciated. Excellent dance music was supplied by Mr. Eric Green (piano) and Mr. Jackson (piano accordian). Home made supper was supplied by the Ladies’ Guild, the hostesses being Mesdames A. T. Jackson, W. Henson, C. Braggins and Loft. The dances this season have been very popular and Thursday’s was the best so far. The M’s.C. were the Rev. J. E. Jones and Mr. Joblin.
