WEATHER REPORTS.
Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:—- Barograph, 30.15; shade temperature, maximum, 46.6; minimum, 40.5; terrestrial, 39.9; sunshine, 22 minutes; rain, 15| points. Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reported that 13 points of "rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. idson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—There has been little change in pressure distribution over the New Zealand area but a shallow depression followed by a sharp rise in pressure is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds southerly north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura still strong and squally between Cook Strait and East Cape but decreasing and otherwise moderate, veering temporarily in places to westerly, elsewhere moderate south-westerly to westerly, backing again soon to southerlies and freshening somewhat. Weather: Cloudy to overcast between Banks Peninsula and East Cape with rain in places but gradually improving elsewhere, fair but scattered showers developing later, more especially in coastal areas of the South Island; temperatures cold. Sun rises, 7.8 a.m.; sets, 4.47 p.m. Lighting-up time, 5.17 p.m.
