Legislation to be introduced in Parliament in the near future was further considered at a caucus of the Government Party to-day. Subsequently the Prime Minister said discussion on the Prevention of Profiteering Bill, to be introduced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce had been completed and consideration had been given to the Mortgage Readjustment Bill, which would be in the hands of the Minister of Finance.. “We want to have the Mortgage Bill before the House as soon as possible,” Mr. Savage aid. “Indeed it might be desirable to delay the announcement of s guaranteed price for dairy products until the Government’s mortgage proposals are made known. The readjustment of mortgages will be carried out on the basis of the guaranteed price and the provisions of the Bill will have at least some effect in checking speculation in land.” The Finance Bill, the main provision of which is the restoration of wage and salary cuts imposed by general order in 1931, will be introduced in the House to-morrow, the Prime Minister stated. The second reading debate on the Bill will be opened on Thursday. When the Hov.se resumes to-morrow, attention will be given to the adjourned second reading debate on the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, which was introduced before the House rose for the mid-winter recess. -(PA.)
