“BLOW TO DEMOCRACY.”

SITTINGS OF SUPREME COURT. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. A statement that ha saw no good reason for the sittings of the Supreme Court being reinstated in Masterton. was made by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, in a letter to last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, “If the sittings of the Supreme Court were cut out on the grounds of economy,” observed the Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, “then there was no logic in it at all. As matters stand there is a great waste of time and money to litigants and others. . In addition, some 30,000 citizens in this district are deprived of taking part in the administration of justice. I can see the difficulty of the Minister of Justice and suppose we* will have to receive the letter.* 9 Councillor R. Russell: “Receive it with regret.” Councillor A. Rippon: “No, send it back for further consideration.” Councillor W. Kemp: “It* is a blow to democracy.” The letter was received.
