WORKS IN ABYSSINIA
ITALIANS CREATING SPECIAL FUND. INITIAL CAPITAL OF OVER MILLION & HARF. SHARES IN FOREIGN CURRENCIES (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) ROME, May 30. The Italian Cabinet has decided to create a special fund to finance public works in Abyssinia, the initial capital being £1,600,000 sterling. It has authorised the issue of shares in Italian and foreign currencies, which is taken to indicate that Italy may seek to borrow abroad to develop Abyssinia. BADOGLIO AT SUEZ. WELCOMED BY COMPATRIOTS. SUEZ, May 29. Marshal Badoglio, who has arrived en route to Rome from Abyssinia, was welcomed by the Italian Consul and other prominent Italians. Tug boats crowded with Italians singing national songs circled round the steamer on which Marshal Badoglio is travelling. SELASSIE AT GIBRALTAR. GIBRALTAR, May 29. Haile Selassie arrived quietly. There was no ceremonial reception, and he proceeded straight to the Rock Hotel. He is to lunch with the Governor. COURTESIES IN ENGLAND. RUGBY, May 29. It was stated in the House of Commons to-day that during the unofficial visit which he is paying to England at his own request, the Emperor of Ethiopia will be granted all appropriate courtesies and facilities. Haile Selassie will leave Gibraltar for England in the liner Orford on Sunday.— (British Official Wireless.) BAS NASIBU’S HEALTH. MARSEILLES, May 29. Ras Nasibu has arrived and is consulting a doctor, as his health has suffered during the campaign. It is expected that he will remain in South France.
