Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended & a.m. May 30Barograph, 30.24; shade temperature, maximum, 57; minimum, 30.6; terrestrial, 24.4; sunshine, 1 hour 10 minutes; frost, 6 degrees. May 31: Barograph, 30.44; shade temperature, maximum, 51.6; minimum, 39.2; terrestrial, 33.6; sunshine, 1 hour 55 minutes; rain, 5 points. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—A moderate anti-cyclone covers New Zealand but a rather vigorous depression has reached Eastern Australia and is advancing eastwards. Forecast: Winds southerly at first and light to moderate later, a change to northerlies commencing in the far south and I extending over the Dominion within about 24 hours. Weather: Some scattered showers at first on the east coast between Banks Peninsula and East Cape but soon clearing and elsewhere fair to fine, conditions becoming unsettled during Monday in western and far southern districts, with rain developing.
