MISS DAPHNE McLEOD HEADS LIST. EXCELLENT FINANCIAL RESULT. TAKINGS AMOUNT TO ABOUT £1875. (“The Age” Special.) Great interest was taken in the final stage of voting in the Wairarapa p. and A. Society’s Queen Carnival, the results of which were declared in Carterton last evening, in the presence of a large attendance, by Mr. J. Fisher, vice-president of the society. Votes came in by telephone from all parts of the district during the evening and the final placing of the competing Queens was: — Martinborough. • Miss Daphne McLeod 56,350 Carterton-Greytown. Miss R. Jury 48,064 Featherston. Miss M. Nix 4i>,728 With some small items of expense outstanding, the gross takings amounted to about £1875. At Mr. Fisher’s cal], cheers were given for the winning Queen and also for those taking second and third places. The £lO note art union is to be drawn at the coronation ceremony, the date of which has not yet been announced. Art unions drawn yesterday were won as follow:—Dressed doll, Audrey Graham, Dixon Street, Masterton; fire screen, Miss E. Torrey, East Taratahi.

A baby show held at yesterday’s Paddy’s Market was judged by Mrs. W. James (Masterton), assisted by Miss lorns. The prize winning babies were: —Under 12 months, June Peters; under 6 months, Graham Cadwallader; special prize awarded by the judge, Alan Hicks.

Carnival competitions were won as follow:—Cushion, J. O’Connor; supper cloth, K. Cameron; crystal set, J. Fitzgerald; man’s pullover, K. Campbell; invalid cape, Mrs. Taplin; bed jacket, Mrs, J. Jury; suit of clothes, 8. Campbell and Miss E. Johnson (tie); vase, W. Sage; canoe, “Maggie,” Park Road; duck, M. Pinfold; dinner, Mrs. Philpotts; goose, Mrs. V. Robinson; lamb (weight 32jlbs.), P. Bain and L. Rayner (tie); Jftlectric iron, Mrs. F. Cadwallader; tifn of sweets, Mr. Chennels.
