WOOL LEVY APPROVED.

MEETING OF POVERTY BAY FARMERS. CERTAIN STIPULATIONS. GISBORNE, May 22. At a representative meeting of farmers called by the Farmers’ Union, A. and P. Association and Sheepowners’ Federation this afternoon to discuss the wool levy, the following resolution was passed and ordered to be sent to the Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture: “That this meeting approves a levy on wool for the purposes of advertisement and research up to a maximum of 6d per bale, provided the committee is not tied to a definite proportion for each of the two purposes but is empowered to allocate amounts to each purpose which it deems necessary and further, (1) that administration of the levy is under the control of a committee comprising the majority of wool producers; (2) that the portion of the fund allocated to scientific research in New Zealand should carry a definite annual subsidy from, the general funds of the State; (3) that farmers be given some voice in the selection of the farmer members of the committee.''—'(P.A.)
