HARRIER NOTES.

MASTERTON CLUB RUNNERS. (By “Black & White”). J. Warham, one of this year’s novices, should become a most promising burner for the Masterton Club, with the development of h'is long stride and his stamina, which he used to good advantage last 'Saturday. Another novice showing promise is H. Evans, and with training, he should gain a place in the B team for the championships. H. Adcock, a second, year runner, is turning out at training runs and on Saturdays with great zeal. His handicap Will more than likely to decrease somewhat this year. S. Hatch, ajso one of last year’s novice’s, is showing good form again this season and with training should also gain a place in the championship team. E. Creswell, who had a slack time last year, is once more attending regularly, and will be amongst the first men home. He is a very keen runner. J. McKay is not running in his usual form, but a little time spent in training should see him one of the top men again. Thi? year’s handicapper, J. Mulvey, still retains his consistency every week, being well to the fore in the races so far this year. G. Kempton, after an absence of a few seasons, is again turning out for the club, and appears to be running better than ever. A few hints to newcomers may not be amiss:— Before the commencement of any run, pay attention to the shoes. See that the laces are tied securely, as much time is lost by stopping. If you feel the “stitch” coming on. do not stop, but try to regulate the breathing, and even if you “double up” a little, it will probably disappear. The most important item is training, which is not to be undertaken haphazardly. Training must be consistent, to be of any aid to the runner.
