ROADS REOPENED.

WAIROA-GISBORNE HIGHWAY. RECENT HEAVY RAIN. GISBORNE, April 14. The exceptionally heavy rain of Friday and Saturday morning caused several slips on the Wairoa-Gisborne Road, in one section alone the road being blocked for three miles. At Nuhaka on the same road, a culvert was washed out. As a result Gisborne was isolated on Saturday so far as passengers and goods traffic and mails were concerned. The rain eased somewhat on Saturday and strenuous efforts on the part of Public Works Department gangs saw the main road completely reopened to-day, a number of ears, including service cars, coming through during the afternoon.—(P.A.)
