CONCLUSION OF HAWERA MEETING. STEEPLES TO BROWN ABBEY. HAWERA, May 3. Rain falling throughout the day softened the tracks for the concluding programme of the Egmont Racing tSJhib’s winter meeting but there was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £6533, an increase of £971 on the second day last year, the total for the two days being £14,990 10s, an increase of £3207 10s over last year. An inquiry into- the runnijrj* of Orapai in the Mokoia Handicap was adjourned. Results:—

The , Grand Annual ‘Steeplechase resulted: Flavedo, 9.12 (Sweetham), T; Lanilda, 10.7 (Fullarton), 2; Merry Elve, 9.10 (Carter), 3. Every horse in this event either stopped, baulked or fell. At one stage there was not a horse Tunning. The winner, Flavedo, stopped once and fell once and eventually won easily. Merry Eve stopped twice. Lanilda alsc fell and was remounted.
