U.F.S. DISPENSARY.
REPORT OF YEAR’S ACTIVITIES.
The annual report of the Masterton United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary states:—On behalf of the committee of management, I have pleasure in submitting this, the seventeenth annual report and balance sheet. Although the position disclosed is not as good as the previous year, still, in view of the imposition of the Sales Tax, combined with the increased rate of exchange, which in the majority of cases could not be passed on, the profit derived must be considered very satisfactory. The turnover could be materially increased if all members purchased their requirements, such as are stocked, from the Dispensary. During the year Government securities were disposed of, which showed a good return on the investment. The average number of members on the list was 768, and the total prescriptions dispensed to them 5474, being equal to 7.13 per 'member, as against last year’s figure of 7.82, when 5864 prescriptions were supplied. As instanced in our last report, we have completed a satisfactory lease of the premises for a further term of years. A complete renovation of the building has been carried out, and the committee have procured up-to-date furniture and fittings, which make it equal to the best in the Dominion. Those members of staff, committee, and others who assisted during the alterations were accorded a special vote of thanks by the Committee for their valuable aid. . . . We express our
best thanks to the manager (Mr. Taylor) and his assistants fo r their good w’ork and co-operation in maintaining the standard of the Dispensary in a difficult trading year.—For the Committee, C. H. Anderson, President.
