FAMINE IN RUSSIA.

PATHETIC APPEALS MADE FOB BELIEF. WORK OF SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS. As an indication of the indescribable conditions prevailing in many parts of Russia, writes Mr. L. Graham, the prel- - of the Seventh Day Adventist Church recently received word of the sombre and terrifying prospect facing millions of the Russian people. Following are extracts from two different letters received, the first being written from Southern Russia:— t4 We come to you with a plea. Perhaps you know there is a terrible famine in Russia and that many are dying of starvation. Dear brethren, it is indescribable. The Scriptures say that if you see a brother who is hungering you should feed him. If possible have pity on us or we will starve to death. Many can help one, but one cannot help many. There is no help in Russia. Have mercy on us beloved brethren in America. ’ ’ Another extract is as follows:—‘ ‘lf the Lord will not cause something special to happen of which no one now anticipates, we are doomed to starvation. You cannot imagine how things are here at present, and how hopeless we look into the future. No tongue can tell and no pen can describe how it happened that it is as it is and how the outlook is now. Long ere this my family and myself would have died from starvation if Brother from Oklahoma had not sent us substantial help.” _ There are over 13,000 members of the Adventist Church in. Russia and the extreme gravity of the situation there is such that the General Conference of the church overseas has been obliged to make up a list of names of those in great need and to .appoint men over various districts so that funds can be remitted and food orders sent into Russia safely and legally.
