TERRIFIC CRASH.

MOTOR CYCLIST FATALLY IN J URED COLLISION WITH TRUCK CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. George Jonathan Pine, aged 19, died in the Christchurch Hospital at noon to-day as the result of terrible injuries received in- a collision between a motor cycle he was riding and a motor truck on Riccarton Road this morning. Pine was riding on a piece of road, bitumen paved, facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing W. J. Bowman’s yard; a motor truck, driven by R. Giles, came out on to the road. The motor cycle hit the truck with a terrific crash. The petrol tank on the cycle burst and the petrol became ignited, enveloping Pine, his motor cycle and the bonnet of the truck in flames. Pine was dragged from the burning truck with his clothing afire. He was terribly burned and rushed to hospital, but he lived only a few hours. A chemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck from complete destruction. Pine was a son of a well-known horse trainer. Mr. George J. Pine.—(P.A.).
