A WAIRARAPA CHALLENGE. CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. A smile was indulged in by members of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night, when a letter from the Wairarapa Rugby Union, whose team won the Ranfurly Shield for a space last season, asked Canterbury for an early match this season. It was decided to accede to the request as far as possible. -(P.A.) AUCKLAND PROPOSAL. AUCKLAND, April 4. At the first meeting of the new management- committee of the Auckland Rugby Union it was decided to send the following remit to the New Zealand Union: “That the following words be added to rule. 6: ‘That, the holders for the time being of the Ranfurly Shield shall not be required, unless they elect otherwise, to play any challenge match prior to the first Safiirday in July.” The season in Auckland opens on April 28, providing tlie grounds are lit — (P.A.)
