CARTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. (“The Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Carterton Football Club was held on Friday evening, there being an attendance of over 30 members. Mr A. B. Hall presided. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs B. McKenzie, J. B. Lawrence, W. Howard Booth, C. Reid, J. C. Harp, and W. Compton. The annual report and balancesheet showed that the expenses wore £37 8s 10«, which included jerseys £l3 13, footballs, etc., £6 16s 6d, Rugby Union fees £7 9s. A credit balance of £7 2s 7d remained. The gymnasium fund stands at £37 17s 7d, which is in the P. 0.5.8. The annual ball was considered to have been held too late in the season, and June was suggested in place of August. A credit of £6 3s lid was shown. The entertaining of the Johnsonville football team at Belvedere cost the club £4 14s Cd. No ehampionsliips were won during the year, and while regret was ex- ' pressed at losing the Dewar Shield pleasure was expressed at the eluo ■ entering a team in every grade and . keeping all engagements. It was sug-' gested that games with outside clubs be arranged as soon as possible to get the seniors fit. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr Hall congratulated the club upon its year’s operation. Winning championships was not everything, but the seniors had held their own in all their games and the final results rjere always in doubt until the last whistle. Mr J. W. Henderson seconded, and congratulated the club upon filling all - their engagements. That was an all important matter. i Mr H. J. McKenzie, speaking to the i motion, referred to the expenditure of | £l3 13s on jerseys for the lower grades, drawing attention to the fact | that very few of these jerseys had, been returned, which meant that the j elub would be again put to that ex ' pense this season. Tn comparison with i the expenses the subscriptions were • too low, and the matter of an increase j should be considered. A small sub- ' scription was alright in years gone by when there were only two teams. The boys in the lower grades should be assisted. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr T. V. Moore; president, Mr A. E. Hall; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Reid, F. Brough, E. Wilkins, R. J. Gayfor, B. R. Rayner, A. Phillpotts, W .A. Hart, C. G. Hansen, R. G. Vile, J. Minehan, J. Martin, W. The season opened on Saturday, and next Saturday a match, Town v. Country, is to be arranged. It was resolved that Petone, or other outside clubs, be invited to send a team to Carterton before the season opens. The delegates to the W.R.U. were instructed to oppose the suggestion to have a B grade in the senior competition. The annual ball was recommended for June 4.
