“A DANGEROUS CRIMINAL”
BECOMES HOSPITAL MATRON. DEPORTATION URGED. AUCKLAND, Dec. 23.—“ The quest ion is what is to be done with this woman? She is a morphine maniac and a notorious criminal, and she should be sent back to Australia, where she came from,” said Mr Poynton, S.M., concerning a nurse who was convicted on various charges of obtaining goods by false pretences. Accused, Margaret Beatrice Bordie, in October obtained a position under the Auckland Hospital Board as matron-in-charge at Warkworth. She was arrested in Hawkes Bay under another name. She told the detective she w’as a drug addict and had been taking morphia daily for years. She admitted a series of previous convictions at Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, principally for raise pretences. The Magistrate described her as a dangerous woman, who should be returned to Australia or imprisoned for as long as possible. She was remanded for sentence. —(P.A.)
