METEOROLOGICAL.
Present indications are for strong and squally south-westerly winds, veering to south-easterlies southward of New Plymouth and Castlepoint and to north-westerlies shortly northwards; cold, changeable and showery weather may be expected generally, and heavy showers in the East Coast districts; barometer rising in the south, but falling shortly in the north. The present unsettlement is due to a westerly depression, which has intensified considerably since , passing eastward to the Chatham (sland. There is also evidence of the development of a disturbance to the north-west of New Zealand, which makes the further outlook unpromising. Masterton.—Mr R. Brown reported at 9 a.m. yesterday:—Barograph 29.46, rising slowly; shade temperature, maximum 68.6, minimum 46.4, terrestrial 34.8, xain 8 points, bright sunshine 3hrs 20min.
