DRAINAGE EXTENSION
\ WORK FOR THE MONTH.
The acting-engineer (Mr 1 C. R. Mabson) reported to the Borobgh Council cn the drainage extension loan as follows:-^—
“Columba road and Herbert street have been completed, making a total of 49 i chains for the month, and a start will be made in South road. Labour is still very difficult to get. So far I have only been able to get 38 men. A portion of the sewage farm has been opened up, and is now in use, and willows at the outlet have all been topped and anchored to form protection against floods. “The new septic tank is in operation and working very satisfactorily, except for nuisance caused by the collecting of sewage outside the baffle. To overcome this I have removed a portion of the baffle. Should this not prove effective it will be necessary to concrete in the near end of the tank at a cost of £23.
“The expenditure to the end of October has been £14,906 12s 6d.”
