FEMALE JUSTICES.
If the women of New Zealand who are .clamouring for the appointment of female police were to ask for the appointment of [female "Justices of the Peace, they would appeal more strongly to the sympathies of the general community. The powers of Justices -hinder the Justice _ ot the Peace Act are very considerable. They may order the apprehension, or detention, of any person who may be guilty of offences under the Police Offences Act, and they can sign warrants for the searching of any premises. If female Justices were appointed, they might lend considerable assistance to the police in the enforcement of certain legal enactments bearing upon social evils. Moreover, there is a class of offence, affecting women and children in particular, which could be adjudicated upon by female Justices with distinct advantage to the community. . i
