IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.
A return furnished by Mr Harold Beauchamp at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Bank of NewZealand yesterday showed that while the excess iu value of exports for the two years prior to the war was only £*3,"517,025, th-e excess in the |rj\vo years since ithe .war began amounts to £21,059,599. This means that, allowing for extra taxation occasioned iby the war, the Dominion is in an exceedingly prosperous condition. We were told a day or' two ago that the wan - expenditure to the end of September last was <£.L2,500,()Q(J. 'We have, therefore, a balance in our favour of nearly £9,000,000, with tho prospect of the amount being considerably increased 'during the coining year. With these figures before us, there 'should be no apprehension concerning the future. All that is required is that the (Government shall adjust the taxation in such a way that those who have benefitted by the war shall contribute their fair quota to the national expenditure.
