MINERS' CONSCRIPTION.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your leader in Wednesday's paper is most bitter'against the working class, and is grossly unfair. The wealthy man, the farmers and the farmers' sons, tho clergy, the conscientious objector, members of Parliament, policemen, and others are appealing against conscription, and there are very few of this class that have done, or intend doing, their fair share in tho fighting line,. and they have as much right to go as the working man. Because the miner is claiming the same privilege lie is classed by you a s a traitor of the blackest and most dangerous type, and should be severely dealt with by the Government. You know, a.s well as I do, that ninety per cent or more of the men who have so far gallantly volunteered for active service, belong to the working class, and they have done far more than their fair share in the fighting line. It '-s just about time now that the wealthy class, the farmers and their sons, should be compelled to go to the front and do their bit. We have heard a lot of tho famous square deal, bub never had a sample of it since the Masscy Government has been in power. Who is the shirker? When it lias been put to tho test, it has been proved that he has not been tho working man. You have a perfect right to your own views, but, thank God, they are not public opinion. The "Age" not many months ago stated it was a staunch, friend of the working class. This proves it.— I am, etc., REJECTED. Master ton, December 6, 1916. (We refer to this impotent, we were going to say impudent, letter in our leading columns. —Ed. "Age.")
