FAMILY SHIRKERS.

The Defence authcritiVs, have decided that the appeals by those drawn in the military ballot shall he dealt with in the Wellington district hefore the appeals under clause 33, •popularly known as ■jtht* shirker" clause. For why? The' notice to family shirkers was served long before the ballot was drawn. The Legislature clearly contemplated that mehioers of families where none had enlisted should be taken before the remainder of the First Division. Wihy, then, are their appeals not taken (First? Ts «:-t- -desired thatthey should be afforded a- further opportunity of holding hack? There is. a great deal of public comment over the action of the Defence authorities in this matter, and the Minister of Defence would be consulting his own interests by making a. statement upon the subject.
