N.S.W. ELECTIONS.

CABLE_ NEWS

(United Press Association — By Electric Telegraph—Vopynght).)

THE RESULTS INCONCLUSIVE.

MR BEEBY'S PARTY ROUTED

DEFEAT OF EX-SPEAE:ER WILLIS.

(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, December 7.

The weather was line throughout the State for the "general elections, which took place yesterday, and the polling was Heavy. The City and Suburban returns are practically complete, but the country returns are still largely in arrears. A feature of the contests, so far as they have been decided, is that Labour has not only held its own, but has captured at least two seate. A large number of second ballots ■will apparently be required. Mr G. S. Beeby's National Progressive Party was routed. The results, reckoning the completed counts and approximately safe seats, by the latest returns, are as follows: Labour ~. 36 . Liberals 34 Independents > 2 Labour wins the Ahnandale seat, where the Hon. Arthur Griffith, Minister of Labour, ousted Mr Bruntnell, the old Liberal member. (Mr" Bruntnell was a member of the TotalisatoF Commission which visited New Zealand a year or two back. He was formerly a Major in the Salvation v "S.'rmy in New Zealand.) '

A Labourite has also won the Granville s*eat, which was formerly occupied by Mr Nobles, a. very old member of the Liberal party. This seat had been considered a safe one for the Liberal candidate. Parrarnatta, another Liberal seat, is still in jeopardy. The seats of the whole of the Ministers are safe. The Hon. W. A. Holma,a (Premier) holds a secure lead, while Mr J. S.' McGowen, the late Premier, romped in with a big majority.

Mr G. C. Wade, Leader of the Opposition, was also returned wrEh'-'a big majority. Mr G. S. Beeby, leader of the Progressive Tarty, and formerly Minister of Labour, got a bad fall at erley, and Sir. William McMillan, who ran as an Independent against .the eelecteS Liberal at Willoughby, was: badly beaten. > The new Parliament will miss a picturesque figure in the person of Mr Henry Willis, the ex-Speaker, who holds a Hopeless position in the Upper Hui>ter electorate.' The Labour machine got a knock at Botany, where Mr Page, the silting Labour member,, who failed, to secure the caucus selection, ran away from Mr Johnstone, the selected Labour candidate. Labour is threatened with the loss of two seats—Gwydir and Mumimbidgee. [The N.S.W. Assembly is,composed of 90 members.]

VOTE FAVOURS CONTINUANCE TN EVERY ELECTORATE.,

(Received this morning 1.10 o'clock.)

SYDNEY, Doc

No official figures in regard to the No-license poll are yet available, but it is known that not a single electorate voted No-license, though the "dry" vote will show an increase.

THE LATEST FIGURES

LABOUR STILL'LEADING

POSITION. DOUBTFUL,

(Received this morning 1.10 o'clock.)

'SYDNEY. Dec. 7

Til© latest available returns altered the position considerably, and as many from the cotuntry are incomplete and second ballots are required in thirteen electorates, tlio position is capable still of much change. Hon. Mr Hall, Minister of Justice's seat, ia not secure.

Mr Lynch, for Asburnham, and Mr Thrower, for tlio Macquarie seat (both Labourites) may also possibly be defeated,, while the Liberals look like losing the Baihurst seat. Mr Moxham,* Liberal, has improved his position for the Parramjitta seat, though 1 a second ballot will be required.

In IKe electorates where second ballots are needed, the Liberals are leading in ten, and Labour in three. Out of the total ninety seats, including those where second ballote are required, Labour has won or are leading in 45, the Liberals 43, and Independents four.)
