Rhodes), speaking at a letter carriers' dinner last night, said that since April there had been twentyfive rural mail deliveries established in the Dominion. Since July Ist the concession of p?>sting letters without late fee at flag stations' and railway sidings was extended to mail trains. For the present fishing season, a single trout, weighing ,up to.2Slbs, might be sent by posst., ■ The limit was formerly lllbs. As a temporary measure, during, the present unusual condition of trade, an extension had been made of the weight of inland parcels from 11 lbs to 211bs between post offices served by Tail or steamer." A reciprocal arrangement was recently entered into with the Australian Savings Banks for'the transfer of accounts for the convenience of travelling depositors. The work of laying underground telephone lines was now in progress; at several of the larger and smaller centres. The preliminary work for the installation of automatic telephones was proceeding at Auckland, Blenheim, Hamilton, Masterton, Oam'aru and' Wellington .and it would shortly be necessary to give attention to Chriatchurch and Dunedin.
