MOTOR WAGGONS.
A feature of the debate on the Public Works Statement in the -House of Representatives on Friday last was the strong appeal by Dr Newman for justice for the Wairarapa backblocks, and* his spirited .advocacy of the employment of Government, motor waggons in tiie outlying districts. It is to be regretted that the appeal made by flie member for Wellington East on behalf on the Rimutaka deviation was not supposed, as it should have been, by the members for Wairarapa, Masterton, and Pahiatua, and by the representatives of the city electorates. ThTs part of the Dominion has been suffering a cruel injustice by the non-recognition of its claims by successive Ministries. We had hoped ' that, after his tour, of the district, the Hon. W. Eraser >ou'ld have recognised our disabilities, and come To ,om* assistance. Evidently, however, we shall require to take further steps to impress the Government with the- .necessity' for immediate action. So far as Dr Newman's suggestion of motor services is concerned, it would act admirably in those, districts where there is an abundance of road .metal. In parts of the Wairarapa, however, we fea,r that such a. service would lie- out of the question.
